No better acoustic in town

"I'm sure there is no better acoustic in town - not arid but crystal clear and with no undesirable echos, even when sitting close to the back of the stalls... I'm told that it sounds just as good from the spectacular horseshoe balcony... This venue now has all the charm of the Wigmore Hall and I look forward to top class recitals and concerts in the future. I know that the musicians will find the space wonderful and help to move Hastings to the top of the league for great music." David Woolf

Thank you!

"I write this with much admiration and respect to Polo for his generosity in the ethos of the Opus Theatre - of making such internationally acclaimed music available to the general public for whom these performances would normally be beyond their financial reach" Zelly Restorick.

A triumph!

"Congratulations to all involved in the creation of Opus Theatre, and a heartfelt thank you to the lady who anonymously funded the magnificent, ground breaking (and possibly earth-shattering) Phoenix piano. The inaugural concert last Saturday evening, with the likeable and highly talented pianist Oliver Poole, was a triumph.  Bach’s Goldberg Variations, though originally written for harpsichord, enabled Mr Poole to demonstrate the range of the Phoenix from the tender to the tumultuous, but it was Wagner’s Ring Cycle transcription which really got the blood flowing.  This was followed by a rendition of Rhapsody in Blue, which brought the house to its feet. There’s a lot of people looking forward eagerly to more from Opus, whether it be music, theatre or other arts - and it's right on our doorstep. Richard Palim

Not necessary to go to London

People who love classical music will be delighted at the growing success of the Opus Theatre in Cambridge Road. This venue only opened for this purpose in early summer but is already drawing large and appreciative audiences. Last Saturday, two extraordinary recitals marked the inauguration of the unique nine feet long, Phoenix grand piano. Playing this amazing instrument were two of the world's top concert pianists. The combination of these two talented musicians and the theatre's new technologically advanced piano produced a quality of sound which could not be surpassed. The Opus Theatre promises to be a valuable addition to the cultural life of Hastings. It is not necessary to travel to London to hear great classical music. Anthony Slack

Goodbye West End!

Thank you Polo Piatti and the Opus Theatre! I don't have to endure the stress and expenses of going to London's Westend theatres any longer! Barnard Burrell

Thank you for enriching the musical life of Hastings

"How truly memorable the recent piano recitals were at the new Opus Theatre. The new grand piano is obviously of the highest quality and the two soloists Anton Lyakhovsky and Oliver Poole gave us a magnificent entertainment. I have been to many piano recital in my time but have never heard piano playing of the quality and expertise of Oliver Poole - he blew all us away! Many thanks to Mr Polo Piatti for a wonderful evening and for enriching the musical life of Hastings as he constantly does with his Hastings Sinfonia Orchestra and the Hastings Composers Festival. I hope Hastings is suitable grateful." Mr Richard Sumner, Royal Correspondent, BBC Radio Sussex & Surrey

One of the most extraordinary performances of any kind I've ever heard

"I was off to Opus Theatre, Polo Piatti's new venture in the Cambridge Road Congregational Church, where we watched world-class pianist Oliver Poole on the brand new custom-built Phoenix Opus piano, which, I'm told, is one of the most technologically advanced acoustic pianos in the world. Now I'm not a classical music expert, but I agree with others there who were - it was one of the most extraordinary performances of any kind I've ever heard. So a day of world-class events, in Hastings, a world-class town." Mr Peter Chowney, Leader of Hastings Borough Council

Off the scale!

"I'm no expert... though I've witnessed some phenomenal pianists at the Hastings International Piano Concerto Competition but Oliver Poole's performance at the Opus Theatre was off the scale and he's only 26!" Richard Street

Almost overwhelming

"Thanks again for the invite to the launch of the Opus - it was a wonderful evening - almost overwhelming in the sheer number of great performances!". Sophie Shaw
